How to Host an Iron Brew Get-together Why Host an Iron Brew?An Iron Brew is a great way to mix and meet with new people living with and/or affected by Haemochromatosis. They can create a sense of community for those affected by the condition, allowing peope to share their stories. It’s good to know that you’re not on your own. Where? First thing’s first- where to host an Iron Brew? Most of the time, you will only need a place, time and a suitable coffee shop to invite people to. You are unlikely to be overwhelmed with people who want to attend - but if you are - we can step in and book an alternative venue. There are always some community rooms available in some supermarket chains available for free. It may be worth considering the following when choosing a venue: Is it accessible? Is the venue easy to find? Is it free or affordable? Is there parking available close by? Are there public transport links close by? We will help promote it with you Let us know as soon as possible if you want to organise an iron brew. We will help from the outset and promote the date and time aross all our communication channels - post it on our website as an invite and design a poster for you. We can also handle the event registrations - we may even have someone from the charity who can drop-in! We can also send resources, guides and merch at times. Contact us on [email protected]. You could also contact your local Newspaper or Radio Station to see if they could promote the event. If you're worried about getting started just ask "Tell me about your experience with haeomochromatosis? Are you long diagnosed?" We find the conversation flows very naturally from there. Allow everyone to introduce themselves - to share only what they are comfortable with, and just listen if they want to Set the tone of the discussion- ensure everyone knows to be kind and respectful towards one another. Is there a particular topic you will be discussing? Or are you hoping for more of a general ‘chit chat’? Remember - you dont have to be an expert - you can refer people to out National Helpline to get answer from our Iron Nurses. So please - get Brewing! Manage Cookie Preferences
