Our team

Our charity is run day-to-day by our executive team, supported by our wonderful volunteers.

Executive Team

Jonathan Jelley MBE JP - Interim CEO 

Jonathan enjoyed a successful career in investment banking holding various executive positions in global financial institutions. As Vice President he had responsibility for managing key external commercial relationships. He was asked by the US tycoon Michael Bloomberg to establish his financial Information business in the Middle East resulting in multi million pound annual revenues across seven countries.

He voluntarily supported SSAFA the Armed Forces charity for over 23 years rising from a county branch to National Trustee and National Vice Chairman. He led the charity’s first ever strategic review in 130 years to shape it for the future. In 2019 he was awarded Honorary Life Membership and in 2012 was appointed MBE in Her Late Majesty’s Birthday Honours.

He was appointed by the Minister of State for Veterans as Chairman of the East of England Veterans Advisory & Pensions Committee, acting as an independent advisor influencing social policy to ensure non-discrimination of veterans and the sharing of best practice across the region in relation to the Armed Forces Covenant.

Jonathan was appointed to the Magistracy in 2006 and serves as a Presiding Justice in Peterborough. A Freeman of the City of London, he also sits on the board of the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation and is a voluntary mentor at the Allia Future Business Centre at Peterborough to support entrepreneur’s, starts ups and social enterprises. He is Chair of Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service, Healthwatch Cambridgeshire & Peterborough and the Peterborough Cathedral Preservation Trust. He is also a board member of Peterborough City Council’s Towns Fund Board.

Neil Irwin - Philanthropy Manager  

Neil Irwin joined Haemochromatosis UK in January 2022 with over 25 years professional fundraising experience. Previously Neil has worked as fundraiser for the National Trust, Northern Ireland Hospice and with the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) where he established the charity Will to Give and the website Grant Tracker. Through his fundraising consultancy business Neil has worked with many household name charities across the UK specialising in raising funds from independent grant-making trusts, National Lottery, statutory grants and supporting philanthropic giving.

As a volunteer Neil has worked with the Irish Football Foundation, school PTA committees, the Victoria Homes Trust and started with HUK as a volunteer

Diogo Gomes - Advanced Nurse Practitioner: Information & Advisory

Diogo joined Haemochromatosis UK in September 2021. He qualified as Registered Adult Nurse in Portugal in 2013. He then moved to UK where he gained experience in different settings, ranging from primary and secondary care. His career evolved over the years with professional achievements in different roles within nursing, including Deputy Charge Nurse within an NHS Trust. This lead him to undertake a Postgraduate in Advanced Practice and he has been working as Advanced Nurse Practitioner in acute medicine since 2019,  giving him a broader experience and knowledge of different health conditions. Within this role he facilitated the care between community and acute care, contributing actively for the provision of care at home enhancing the patient’s experience and wellbeing.

Victoria Pointon - Nurse: Information & Advisory

Victoria joined Haemochromatosis UK in October 2022. She qualified as a Registered General Nurse in London in 1996. Her background is in surgical nursing-including Burns, plastic reconstructive surgery and Head & Neck cancer nursing.

She left her role as a Plastic surgery Nurse Practitioner to enjoy raising her three children but maintained her Professional registration during this time. 

More recently she volunteered at her children's Secondary school to help undertake their COVID testing program and went on to deliver the Covid vaccinations in hospital, schools and communities.

Her free time is spent at the gym, walking the dog -but mostly ferrying her children to various different sporting and social activities.

Alex Macdonald - Bookeeper

Alex joined Haemochromatosis UK in January 2024 and has previously worked in a similar position across several non-for-profits after completing her AAT qualification back in 2017.

Her career in finance followed on from a semi-professional Cricket career, and she still enjoys playing an array of sports, staying fit by going to the gym, hiking and walking her beloved rescue dog Raggs.

Abbie Forman - Volunteer Coordinator & Administrator 

Abbie joined Haemochromatosis UK in May 2024 as Volunteer Coordinator & Administrator. This follows 2 years working as a Community Connector for Age UK Lincoln and South Lincolnshire. In this role, she supported patients with hospital discharge planning, ensuring that individuals had the social support they needed to allow them to continue to live independently at home. In 2023 she was Highly Commended for a Customer Experience Award following just 1 year of service. 

In her free time Abbie loves nothing more than to spend time with her family.

Liz Tamplin - Charity Administrator 

Liz Joined Haemochromatosis UK in November 2021 after 4 years of being a self-employed Administrative Assistant and Project Manager.

Following an early career in catering, Liz has experience in Palliative care as a coordinator for the Marie Curie Rapid Response nurses, as well as finance, training and management.
At home Liz has 2 young Children and a husband that keep her busy when she is not in the office.
