To celebrate Haemochromatosis UK Awareness Week 2025, we launched our 'Iron in the Landscape' Photography Challenge! We had over 60 entries, so it was incredibly hard to choose our winners. Thank you to all who took the time to enter- we received an overwhelming community response. It was great to see that so many of you were keen to get out and about, make some art and raise some awareness. We've collated some of the entries we received into a gallery, just for you! Enjoy!

Runner Up! We loved this picture of a rusty, iron gate handle in Thorndon Country Park in Essex, and the contrast it shows between the natural and the man-made. Thank you Rob for this great submission!

Runner Up! Kevin was lucky enough to find this WW2 Anti- Aircraft Gun Sight whilst metal detecting at an old Radar Station! What a find!

Winner! Nick sent us some beautiful entries- it was difficult to pick just one to showcase! This photo is of an iron stained pond on Blast Beach, County Durham. We are fascinated by the story this photo tells- a legacy of the extensive industry of the area. In the 1980s, a regeneration project began to clean up the coastline in this area, resulting in a beach that is now thriving and full of live. As you can see though, history has left its mark! A stunning entry, thank you Nick.

Winner! This entry from Jane gets a thumbs up from us! Jane's picture perfectly captures César Baldaccini's iconic sculpture of a 40-foot thumb, made of iron and concrete, which stands tall in La Défense, France.

Runner Up! We loved this powerful entry from Neal! Pictured is The Mudlark Statue, silhouetted against the World's first iron-clad warship, the HMS Warrior in Portsmouth Harbour.

Winner! We are in awe of this entry from Alex! This sculpture stands 5ft high and was made completely from discarded tools. The sculpture itself rests on bended 'knees', and portrays the battle Alex was facing at the time of creating. An absolutely incredible piece, Alex, thank you for sharing this with us.

Runner Up! This is The Herd Groyne Lighthouse, located at the mouth of the Tyne in South Shields. Recently decorated (in HUK red no less!), it was built entirely out of corrugated iron in 1882, but still acts as a navigation today. Thank you for your entry, Arthur!

(From left to right) Thank you to Emma, Maire, Richard, Howard, Amanda, Victoria, Rob Jane, Tom, Nick and Finbar.

Here are some wonderful 'Rusties' in the Landscape entries, featuring Iron Warriors, that we felt were too good not to share! From Anne-Marie, we have not one, but two Iron Warriors overlooking St Peter's Square. Caroline and her Iron Pup (Sweep!) are pictured having a rest with with an iron sculpture in Kent. Maria shows off some snaps from her day at the British Ironworks Centre, and Peter takes a dip at sunrise on Bronte Beach.
